What are the requirements for installing DWGgateway?

You must have a valid license of AutoCAD® on your computer. AutoCAD LT® is currently not supported.

Which AutoCAD versions are supported by DWGgateway?

AutoCAD : R14, R2000, R2000i, R2002, R2004, R2005, R2006 and R2007 and R2008. [Mechanical and MDT variants - support Open only].  AutoCAD LT is currently not supported.

Which operating systems will DWGgateway work with?

Win95, Win98, WinME, WinNT4, Win2K, WinXP, Windows Vista (see Vista install notes below). At least Internet Explorer Version 4 is required.

Windows Vista install notes:

To install on Windows Vista if User Account Control (UAC) is turned on :

  • Download DWGgateway.msi from www.dwggateway.com to a local folder, say “c:\temp”.
  • Go to Start->All Programs->Accessories->Command Prompt. Right-click on the shortcut & click on “Run as administrator”.
  • In the command prompt window, cd to the folder in step 1 (“cd c:\temp”).
  • Type “DWGgateway.msi”, hit enter and run through the usual installation process.

Which DWG file formats are supported by DWGgateway?

DWGgateway will open and save DWG files in formats from version 2.5 to version 2007 (the latest format).

Will DWGgateway work with multiple installations of AutoCAD?

Multiple installations of R2000/MDT4, R2000i/MDT5, R2002/MDT6 on the same machine are not supported. If you have such a combination, DWGgateway will be installed on the last version installed or run.

How do I open a DWG file using DWGgateway?

You can use the toolbar button or the menu selection to open your DWG files.  Please note that using AutoCAD's open dialog will not use the technology in DWGgateway to open future versions of DWG files.  If you get an "incompatible file type error," please try to open your DWG file using the DWGgateway open command from the DWGgateway toolbar or the DWGgateway menu.

How do I save a DWG file using DWGgateway?

AutoCAD will only save back to certain DWG files formats.  In order to save to the DWG file format required, please use the DWGgateway save command using the DWGgateway toolbar button or the DWGgateway menu.

How do I create a PDF file using DWGgateway?

DWGgateway Release 2 has the ability to create PDF files from within AutoCAD.  To create a PDF, you must select the menu or toolbar selection, confirm your page layout settings, and then slect the name of the PDF file to be created.

What version of PDF is being created by DWGgateway?

Version 5.  If you get an error while reading a PDF created by DWGgateway, please check that your Acrobat Reader is version 5 or higher.
